MiresBall won two honors in the 2014 HOW International Design Awards—both for Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits packaging design.

The competition features top design excellence from creative agencies and individuals around the globe.

A team of design-industry veterans judged nearly 1,000 entries in 14 categories, and selected 292 winning projects that demonstrated an ideal mix of concept, strategy and execution. International Design Awards is a global creative competition; each year, winners represent countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America.

The award-winning Ballast Point beer cans and 22-oz. cases were part of the top-to-bottom brand refresh. MiresBall extended the Ballast Point identity to a new medium of beer cans, developed a simple core design using key brand elements, and incorporated a color-coded system for differentiating the individual beers.

The 22-oz. cases were given a bold design to help the brand stand apart from its competition, and easily communicate with distributors and consumers with a color-coded system.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized by HOW for our Ballast Point packaging work. It’s exciting to see the brand evolve—what began as a rebranding and repackaging project has led to new distribution nationwide, the development of a beer garden and spirits bar at Petco Park in Dan Diego, a launch of a Kitchen and Tasting Room in Little Italy, and a new 100,000-square-foot brewery,” explained partner and creative director Scott Mires.

Other winning projects included Target Corporation, Microsoft, Audi, Williams-Sonoma and The Coca-Cola Company. All winning projects will be featured in the March 2014 issue of HOW Magazine.
