Graphic Design USA has recognized MiresBall—a west coast-based brand agency—with a 2011 American Package Design Award for its Shure Beta microphone packaging.
The competition, co-sponsored by Neenah Paper, included packaging entries across a variety of industry segments, such as electronics and food/beverage, as well as separate categories for features like sustainable packaging and in-store graphics.
MiresBall has worked with Shure, a global audio equipment manufacturer, on a variety of packaging projects—as well as brand strategy, identity, and advertising—over the course of its 5-year partnership.
“The Beta microphone packaging is the culmination of a long-term master planning effort that brought together three separate lines of Shure wired mics,” said John Ball, principal and creative director at MiresBall. “We worked from a consistent footprint that allowed each line to have a unique identity, while maintaining continuity within the family.”
To reinforce the premium position of Beta microphones, MiresBall developed packaging that reflects the precision engineering, control, and detailed sound reproduction that professional musicians and sound engineers demand. Beta microphones are currently available in 12 application-specific models from music retailers and distributors worldwide.
An award-winning creative agency based in San Diego, MiresBall has a 30-year track record developing brand, packaging, and communications programs for clients including Best Western Hotels & Resorts, Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits, Qualcomm, Samsung, Shure, Pirch, Chicken of the Sea, and Coronado Brewing Company.
